About Trans Up Front
Trans Up Front is a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to uplifting, educating, and advocating alongside transgender and gender-diverse youth, young adults, and their families. We provide affirming programming, community support, and advocacy designed to reduce barriers and increase safety, opportunity, and belonging for trans and gender-diverse people.
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and mission-aligned Grant Writer to support and grow our fundraising efforts. This role will focus on identifying funding opportunities, developing strong grant proposals, and managing reporting requirements for awarded grants. The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller, highly organized, and motivated by equity-centered work supporting transgender and gender-diverse communities.
Key Responsibilities
Grant Research and Identification

Identify and research funding opportunities that align with organizational mission and priorities

Stay informed on grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government agencies

Evaluate alignment between funders and organizational programs
Grant Proposal Development

Write, prepare, and submit high-quality grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting materials

Tailor applications to meet funder requirements while ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance

Develop compelling narratives that communicate organizational impact
Collaboration and Coordination

Work closely with the Executive Director and grant committee to gather program information, data, budgets, and outcomes

Coordinate across teams to ensure accuracy and alignment in proposals

Support the translation of program work into funder-ready materials
Grant Reporting

Prepare and submit timely reports on funded projects, including outcomes and impact

Maintain accurate records of grant submissions, awards, deadlines, and follow-ups

Ensure compliance with all funder reporting requirements
Qualifications
-
Required: 2–5 years of grant writing experience, preferably within a nonprofit or community-based organization

Demonstrated success in securing grant funding and supporting funded proposals

Strong written communication skills with the ability to craft compelling, clear narratives

Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities

Ability to work independently with strong follow-through and attention to detail

Lived experience as a transgender, gender nonconforming, or gender-diverse (TGNC) individual
-
Familiarity with nonprofit databases, fundraising platforms, or grant management systems is a plus
Schedule & Work Environment

Fully remote position (must reside in Illinois)

Flexible schedule based on deadlines and project needs

Occasional virtual meetings with leadership and staff
